Napoleon – A Film By Ridley Scott – Joaquin Phoenix │ News Update │ Cineflicks News

Ridley Scott is bringing an epic historical film, “Napoleon” this year. It will be another biographical film from this acclaimed director. Ridley is known for directing historical blockbuster films like The Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. That’s why, when it comes to the same niche, we can expect a great movie from him. Teaming up with a Hollywood A-lister, Napoleon is already attracting viewers ahead of its release. Therefore, this video has all the details you should know about this upcoming film.
As clear from its name, the film is about the famous historical figure Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a French military commander and political leader, who rose to power through revolution and became the emperor. The movie will be depicted in the context of his relationship with Joséphine, his first wife and the first Empress of France. An exact timeline for the film has not been revealed, but it is expected to cover their courtship and marriage, which lasted from 1795 to 1810. The marriage between these two proved quite complicated. Being a commander, Napoleon was often busy fighting battles in other countries. Apart from being away, the romantic affairs of both parties, and complications of power became one of the main reasons for their turbulent marriage. The officially released synopsis reads, “The film depicts Napoleon’s rise to power through the lens of his addictive and volatile relationship with Empress Joséphine.” The titular character will be played by none other than Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix. It will be the 2nd collaboration between him and Ridley since The Gladiator. Scott has praised Joaquin’s portrayal of the titular character, saying that it has led to major revisions in the film. Phoenix is known for his unique approach to acting, constantly questioning the production and inspiring the director to rewrite parts of the story. In a recent interview, Scott said following about Joaquin’s approach toward the movie, “He made this film special by constantly questioning. With him, we can rewrite the goddamn film because he’s uncomfortable. We unpicked the film to help him focus on who Bonaparte was. I had to respect that because what was being said was incredibly constructive. It made it all grow bigger and better.” Alongside him, Vanesa Kirby is cast to portray Josephine. Other supporting cast members are Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles, and Ludivine Sagnier. It is written by David Scarpa who previously wrote the biographical film All the Money in the World for the same director. Initially titled “Kitbag”, the movie was supposed to be developed by 20th Century Studios. However, when Scott’s deal with the studio concluded by the end of the year, the project became available to other major studios. In January 2021, Apple Studios announced its commitment to finance and produce the film. Production began officially in February 2022 featuring six major battle sequences. Filming started in Lincoln, England, in March 2022. The crew spent a week preparing Lincoln Cathedral, which stood in for Notre Dame de Paris. Other filming locations included Stowe Avenue and Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, West Wycombe Park in Buckinghamshire, Petworth House in Sussex, and Boughton House in Kettering. The film was also set to shoot in Malta for three weeks starting in May 2022. As for now, the filming is still going on and it is expected to end next month. This epic historical film is set to release this year on November 22, 2023, and will later be released on Apple TV+.
