The Little Mermaid │ News Update │ Cineflicks News

The first official trailer for the upcoming Disney film, ‘The Little Mermaid” has been released. And with that, the buzz surrounding this live-action adaptation has reached new heights. Since the first sneak peek was released at D23, the hype has been steadily growing. And it’s no wonder, the first clip quickly garnered over 104 million views globally, in just a matter of days. Now, with only a handful of months to go until the film’s release, Disney has finally dropped the first proper trailer that gives us a better look at Ariel’s underwater world. This new trailer introduces us to some of the major players in Ariel’s story, including her daring rescue of Prince Eric and their blossoming romance. We also get a glimpse of King Triton’s stern reaction to Ariel’s desire to be a part of the surface world. And of course, we can’t forget about the iconic villain Ursula and her menacing laugh. The second half of the trailer features the “Part of Your World” reprise and showcases even more of Ariel’s underwater kingdom. We get a first look at the film’s other iconic musical number, “Under the Sea,” which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1989. According to this new trailer, the live-action remake also appears to stay quite faithful to its animated source material. Many scenes featured in the video will be familiar to fans of the original film, including Bailey’s portrayal of Ariel, striking her iconic pose on a rock with waves crashing behind her. The trailer offers the best glimpses yet of Awkwafina’s Scuttle and Daveed Diggs’ Sebastian. The core of the story remains unchanged, where Ariel desires to explore the human world and becomes embroiled in a dangerous bargain with Ursula. However, the casting choices suggest that the new version may introduce some new elements. Bailey has also hinted at a more progressive take on Ariel’s character, so audiences should expect some modifications to the beloved story. The Little Mermaid appears to be following in the footsteps of other Disney remakes, like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, by retaining the essential elements of the original story while embracing some new twists. As you already know that Halle Bailey is set to play the iconic role of Ariel, alongside an all-star cast including Javier Bardem as King Triton, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. But there are also some exciting new additions to the cast, including Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the Crab, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle – who, by the way, is now a diving bird instead of a seagull like in the original. And that’s not all – there are even more new characters created just for this version, like Queen Selina played by Noma Dumezweni, Pearla played by Lorena Andrea, Indira played by Simone Ashley, and Karina played by Kajsa Mohammar. With such a talented cast, we’re sure they’ll bring a fresh new take to this classic story. The movie is directed by Rob Marshall from a script by David Magee and Jane Goldman. The soundtrack will feature both new songs from Alan Menken, who composed the original film’s soundtrack. He has written songs along with Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is also a producer on the film. So, mark your calendars, because The Little Mermaid is set to hit theaters on May 26th, 2023.
