Last Voyage of the Demeter is an upcoming supernatural horror film. It is a new take on a very old blood-sucking creature known as Dracula. Based on the novel by Bram Stoker, this upcoming horror film is making a lot of noise among horror fans. A big reason behind its early popularity is the man himself who is making this movie. Apart from that, a movie made on Dracula never ceases to give us goosebumps. That’s why, today’s video is made for all those horror fans who are waiting for this highly anticipated movie. So, let’s dive right into it.
Dracula isn’t done with us yet. The proof of that statement is this upcoming movie revolving around him. This time, the whole movie is a re-imagining of Chapter 7 from Bram Stoker’s legendary novel. Titled as “Captains Log,”, this horror flick takes us aboard the Russian merchant ship Demeter, where Dracula sets sail for London. Now, many fans are wondering, how can a short chapter like that, is enough for an entire movie? Well, that’s where the script comes in. Back in 2002, Bragi F. Schut penned the initial screenplay for this thrilling film. The talented Robert Schwentke was set to direct. He partnered with Mitch Brian to bring their own creative touch to the script. However, the project faced numerous challenges and spent almost two decades trapped in development hell. Throughout the years, several directors came and went, each leaving their mark on the film. Finally, in October 2019, a new ray of hope emerged as André Øvredal stepped in to direct the film. As a result, we are getting this long-awaited movie based on a famous horror tale. As we told you earlier, it is inspired by Bram’s classic novel. Universal Pictures has released the official logline for this film. It tells us that, “Strange and horrifying events befall the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage from Transylvania to London, stalked each night by a merciless presence onboard the ship: a legendary vampire known as Dracula. When the Demeter finally arrives off the shores of England, it is a charred, derelict wreck. There is no trace of the crew”.
In the cast, we have Corey Hawkins portraying Clemens, a doctor who finds himself aboard the ill-fated ship. Next, we have Aisling Franciosi as Anna, a brave young stowaway who joins the battle against the merciless Count Dracula. Liam Cunningham brings his talent to the film as the ship’s captain. David Dastmalchian takes on the role of Wojchek, the ship’s first mate. Javier Botet is playing the role of Count Dracula. The ensemble cast also includes Jon Jon Briones, Stefan Kapicic, Nikolai Nikolaeff, Woody Norman, Martin Furulund, Nicolo Pasetti, and Chris Walley. The film is directed by Andre who is a renowned figure among the horror fans community. He has directed many popular supernatural films like The Autopsy of Jane Doe and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark”. In June 2021, principal photography kicked off in Berlin. The production then moved to Malta, capturing stunning visuals along the way. The cameras kept rolling until October 1, capturing all the intense moments and bringing the story to life. The last Voyage of Demeter is scheduled to arrive on big screens on August 11, 2023. For more updates, subscribe to the Cineflicks News and hit the bell icon.
