Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game │ News Update │ Cineflicks News
Pinball: The Man who saved the Game is an upcoming biographical film that is going to release this month. This movie tells the incredible story of Roger Sharpe, the man who saved pinball. Without him, who knows where pinball would be today? In fact, his story is so amazing that it’s been made into a new film by the Bragg Brothers, and we’ve got all the details for you.
So, here’s the deal: Roger Sharpe was a pinball wizard in his spare time, and he knew everything there was to know about the game. But back in 1975, New York City outlawed pinball because it was considered a game of chance, and thus associated with gambling. That’s where Sharpe comes in. Sharpe was a writer for GQ magazine, and with the help of the Music and Amusement Association, he was able to convince the Manhattan City Council that pinball was not just a game of chance, but a game of skill. And he did this by demonstrating his own skills in front of the council! The trailer for Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game shows an older Sharpe being asked to recount his incredible tale. It then cuts back to 1975, where we see a young Sharpe. He’s a writer for GQ, he’s on a date with Ellen and he’s a pinball legend. But he never realized that pinball had been outlawed in New York City. With the help of GQ and the Music and Amusement Association, Sharpe gets the chance to play pinball at city hall in front of a bunch of politicians who think the game is just a form of gambling. But Sharpe knows better. And in his journey to save pinball, he also finds love with Ellen and commits to her, just as he committed to the game he loves. The film boasts an amazing cast! This includes the talented Mike Faist, who was nominated for both a BAFTA and a Tony award. Faist is best known for his role in the Oscar-winning West Side Story adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg, and he’ll soon be seen in Luca Guadagnino’s new film Challengers, alongside Zendaya and Josh O’Connor. Joining Faist in Pinball is Crystal Reed, who you may remember from her role in the hit TV series Teen Wolf. She’s also appeared in the short-lived Swamp Thing series and is sure to bring her acting chops to this new film. But the cast doesn’t stop there! Pinball also features Dennis Boutsikaris, who you might recognize from his role in Better Call Saul, Christopher Convery from Prisoner’s Daughter, Damian Young from Ozark, and Mike Doyle from New Amsterdam. The movie marks the feature debut for the Bragg Brothers, who are best known for their acclaimed web series, The Defenders of Stan. The Braggs have already received high praise for their first film, which premiered on the festival circuit and even won the Directorial Debut Awards at the Heartland International Film Festival. The film boasts an amazing production team, with Summer Crockett Moore, Tony Glazer, Stacey Parks, Lana Link, and Rob Pfaltzgraff all on board to produce. And, of course, the real-life Roger Sharpe served as executive producer alongside Nick Reid. We can’t wait to see Pinball when it’s released on March 17, 2023.
