The Exorcist – 2023 │ News Update │ Cineflicks News

If you are a true fan of horror films, then Christmas is coming early for you. Why? Because the pinnacle of horror films, is coming this year. And yes we are definitely talking about “The Exorcist”. Based on the novel of the same name, this film is a true masterpiece of horror and a defining moment in film history. With its violent, disturbing, and polarizing content, “The Exorcist” has been both controversial and critically acclaimed. And over the years, it has developed a huge following of fans who can’t get enough of the terrifying premise, stomach-churning imagery, and boundary-pushing performances. And now, almost 50 years after the original movie first shocked audiences, David Gordon Green, the mastermind behind the recent Halloween reboot, is revisiting this pulp fiction horror story. But it won’t be a single film or a sequel because a whole new trilogy is in the works right now and it’s shaping up to be a thrilling new take on the classic horror story. According to director David Gordon Green, he plans to continue the original story rather than just remaking it. The first chapter will follow a desperate parent of a possessed child who turns to Ellen Burstyn’s character for help. Burstyn, of course, is returning to her role from the original 1973 film. With director David Green, producer Jason Blum, and a talented team of artists dedicated to this project, audiences can expect a fresh take on the story while still preserving the essence of the original film. In an interview, Blum told that, “I want to make a movie that works for both audiences. I want to make a movie for people that know and love the first Exorcist and are furious that we’re doing this, but somehow drag themselves to the theater. I want them to come out happy. And I want to make a movie that people who’ve never heard of The Exorcist really enjoy. I think David did that with Halloween. I think he’ll do that with The Exorcist also.” Ellen Burstyn is back in this film, and she’ll be reprising her role as Chris MacNeil, the Hollywood celebrity and mother of the possessed Regan MacNeil. Leslie Odom Jr. who gained fame from Hamilton 2020 has joined the cast. He’ll be playing the father of a possessed child who turns to Chris for help. It’s still unclear if Regan, Father Merrin, and Father Karras will be part of the storyline, but unfortunately, the original actors who played the priests have passed away, so it’s unlikely they’ll be returning. This latest installment is set to be released as a trilogy, with the first film premiering in theaters on October 13, 2023. Now, we know you’re all eagerly waiting for the release dates of the second and third films, but unfortunately, those details are still in the works. However, given that the trilogy is part of a partnership with Universal, there’s a chance that the following Exorcist films may skip theaters and go straight to Universal’s streaming platform, Peacock.
