Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes is an upcoming instalment in the Hunger Games saga. After a lot of time, the arena is about to set again this year and the hype of this film is already at its peak. These deadly games ceased to exist after a satisfying ending in 2015. That’s why, the 5th movie will serve as a prequel to the original series.
In this film, we will meet a young and ambitious Coriolanus Snow. He’s the last hope for his declining Snow family. Once a powerful and respected lineage, the family has now fallen from grace in a war-torn Capitol. When Coriolanus’s livelihood is threatened, he’s assigned the task of mentoring Lucy Gray Baird. She hails from the poor District 12, the same district from which Katniss belongs. Things take an unexpected turn when Lucy’s charm captivates the entire audience of Panem. Suddenly, Snow sees an opportunity to change their destinies. With everything he’s worked for hanging in the balance, he joins forces with Lucy, and together they set out on a daring mission to turn the odds in their favor. It’s not an easy journey because as the story unfolds, Snow battles his own instincts, torn between good and evil. As time runs out, he faces a race against the clock, fighting for survival and wondering which path he’ll ultimately choose. Will he become a songbird, representing hope and light, or will he succumb to his darker instincts and become a snake? Lionsgate has released an official synopsis which reads, “Years, before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus, is the last hope for his fading lineage. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy Gray’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake.” Written by Michael Lesslie, it is directed by Francis Lawrence, the man who has directed the previous 4 films in this franchise. It has an ensemble cast with some new faces and some big names from the industry. Tom Blyth takes on the role of a younger Coriolanus Snow. Rachel Zegler has stepped up into the character of Lucy Gray Baird. She rose to stardom after her acclaimed role as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story”. Hunter Schafer joins the cast as Tigris Snow, the cousin of Coriolanus. Emmy Award-winning actor Peter Dinklage portrays Dean Casca Highbottom, one of the creators of The Hunger Games. Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis takes on the role of Dr. Volumnia Gail, the head game maker of the 10th annual Hunger Games. Jason Schwartzman plays the interview host while Isobel Jesper portrays Mayfair Lipp, the daughter of District 12’s mayor. The cast also includes a talented ensemble with names like Fionnula Flanagan, Flora Li Thiemann, Honor Gillies, and many more. The filming for this part began on July 11, 2022, in Poland. It ended on November 5, 2022, in Berlin Germany. It is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 17, 2023.
