Equalizer 3 is set to release this year. After its first trailer was released a few days back, the movie has been making a splash across the internet. Denzel Washington is ready to drop some amazing action sequences along with his amazing acting skills. Being one of the most prolific actors of this era, it will be the first trilogy of his career. The transition from a famous TV series to a blockbuster film franchise, has proven successful time and time again. From 21 Jump Street to The Simpsons, these adaptations have captured the hearts of fans and dominated the big screen. One such series that made such a leap is the 1980s spy-thriller show The Equalizer. Created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim, this show was a massive hit and it was concluded in 1989. After almost 30 years, the show appears on our screens as a film in 2014. Thanks to the thrilling story, amazing direction, and compelling performance of Denzel, the movie became a commercial as well as a critical hit. It spawned a trilogy whose chapter 3 is coming this summer. This chapter will be the last one in this franchise. Yes, it’s sad but it’s true that there will be no more films after chapter 3. As we all know, the last instalment is always the best, and that’s exactly what is happening in Equalizer 3.
In the previous two parts, we saw Robert McCall taking bad guys down in the USA. However, this time in the grand finale, the stage is set in Southern Italy. The official plot synopsis released by the studio reads, “Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.” From this synopsis, it is clear that this will be the biggest challenge for Robert. He has to take down the entire mafia in another country, on his own. In this way, the franchise will be concluded in a powerful and satisfying way. The franchise has many things which make it popular among action lovers. But the biggest one is the main character played by two times Oscar-winning Denzel Washington. He is, undoubtedly, the driving force behind the success of this series. This badass persona of his has a huge fan following now. Therefore, he is returning to reprise his role for one last time. Another familiar face, appearing in Chapter 3 is Dakota Fanning. She is playing a supporting role along with an impressive line-up which includes, David Denman, Sonia Ammar, Remo Girone, Andrea Doddero, and Bruno Bilotta. As for the creative team behind this movie, we have Antoine Fuqua in the director’s chair. This movie will mark the 5th collaboration between Antoine and Washington. The script is written by Richard Wenk who also wrote the previous two films in this series. Behind the camera, we have the renowned cinematographer, Robert Richardson. With their combined experience and passion, this final part is sure to be an extraordinary cinematic experience.
Capturing the breath taking beauty of Southern Italy, principal photography for the film started in October 2022. The team then moved on to film in Naples and finally, they wrapped up their shoot in Rome, in January 2023. Currently, the movie is in post-production status getting a final make-over before its release. Equalizer 3 is scheduled to be released on September 1st, 2023. It will be released exclusively in theaters by Sony. However, thanks to the deal between Netflix and Sony Entertainment, you can watch this film online in late 2023 or early 2024.
