After long anticipation, Wonka our favorite chocolatier is coming this year. Since the release of Charlie and the chocolate factory in 2005, no other film adaptation of this novel is made. But now, Warner Bros. is bringing this eccentric chocolatier back to the big screens. So, exactly when Willie Wonka is coming, and what will he do in this new film? Wonka 2023 is 3rd upcoming film based on Roald Dahl’s famous novel. The first film based on this novel was released in 1971. Directed by Mel Stuart and starring Gene Wilder in the titular role of Willi Wonka, its screenplay was written by Roald himself. This first film turned out to be a box office disappointment but gained positive reviews from critics. But Roald Dhal disowned the film and was “infuriated” by the plot deviations. This resulted in his refusal of any more versions of the book to be made in his lifetime. That’s why Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was released after some 34 years after the release of the first film. Nonetheless, the film became a major box-office success and earned $475 million against a budget of $150 million. Thanks to the charismatic persona of Johnny Depp in the titular role, the film as well as the character was revived on big screens. Now, after almost 18 years, we are getting another movie based on this beloved character. Like the previous two adaptations, Wonka 2023 will also be a musical fantasy. It will serve as a prequel to 1964’s original novel. This means it will depict Willi Wonka’s early days before becoming an eccentric chocolatier. It might explore the childhood of Wonka and how come he possess a chocolate factory. There are so many ideas and plot lines that can be explored in it. However, this film has no connection with the previous two installments and in that way, it is a reboot plus prequel. This younger version of Wonka is played by Oscar-nominated Timothee Chalamet. This young actor has phenomenal acting skills and is known for many highly successful movies. But before Timothee landed this role, Warner Bros. considered other actors to play this character like Ryan Gosling, Ezra Miller, and Donald Grover. Even Tom Holland was considered before Timothee was selected. This selection came directly from the director and writer of this film, Paul King. Paul is a British director and writer known for his work in the Paddington franchise. He is helming this project along with Simon Farnaby. The Producers David Heyman from (The Harry Potter franchise) and Luke Kelly from (The Witches) will be backing Wonka, alongside executive producers Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire. As for supporting roles, Starring alongside Timothée Chalamet will be Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Mathew Baynton, Jim Carter, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, and Rich Fulcher. As of now, we don’t have any information on these supporting characters, but this cast is full of so many talented actors which is enough to get us excited. No official trailer has been released yet.
