The Woman King is an upcoming historical action film, based on true events. Adapted from a storyline written by Maria Bello, the script is written by Dana Stevens. This film is going to be an epic because it contains action, history, and an emotional depth to each character. Gina Prince Bythewood, who is famous for making The Old Guard 2020, is leading this project as a director. Its star-studded cast includes some big names from Hollywood like Oscar-winner actress Viola Davis. She is playing the lead character of Nanisca, the General of the Dahomey military. This is a historical epic movie based on true events in the Kingdom of Dahomey in Africa. Set in the late 1800s, it revolves around a fierce, all-female military regiment known as the Agojie. They have to fight for the lives and freedom of their kingdom when faced with outside aggressors. General Nanisca is faced with a threat to the Kingdom when European forces begin to invade. She also focuses on an ambitious recruit, Nawi, while fighting with the enemy. The supporting cast includes ThusoMbedu, Lashana Lynch Sheila Atim, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. John Boyega is also cast as King Ghezo. The Woman King will be released exclusively to theaters on September 16, 2022, by Sony Pictures.
